The program AFRICA IS COMING! is run by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of German businesses. Having started in 2008, the program sets out to create added value for future African leaders and German companies in order to achieve a sustainable economic cooperation. Each year, 35 to 45 places are available for the program. These are awarded to participants from different African countries.
The program extends over a period of twelve months, eight months of which are spent within German companies. The practical training part of the program also includes an intensive language course and three international management training courses, which are conducted by the Carl Duisberg Training Centers. When the program is finished, the participants continue to network with each other through alumni activities. Some are also taken on by the partner company or work in a branch of the company in their home country.
The Intercultural Training Department at Carl Duisberg Centren runs a total of three international management training courses during the participants’ stay in Germany. These courses are designed to accompany the learning process of the scholarship holders during their stay and cover various topics. In addition to introductory topics such as intercultural competence and German business culture, communication, moderation and presentations are covered. Additional key areas of the courses are (agile) project management and leadership skills.
