A skilled labor force is a prerequisite for economic development. Our VET programs respond to increasing labor market demand and are designed to improve the skills and competencies of participants so that they become qualified employees and productive members of society. The internationally recognized German dual vocational training system has an excellent reputation as an effective tool for increasing youth employment and for strengthening economic performance.
In our intensive training programs, participants acquire technical knowledge, expertise and practical skills according to international standards and receive certificates issued by German chambers of skilled trades and crafts.
On behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) the Carl Duisberg Centren gGmbH (CDC) was commissioned to arrange a one-week training programme for 16 Indian master trainers.
The aim was to create a better understanding of the constitutive elements of the German Dual Training System in such a way that the participants can use them to make recommendations and suggestions for adapting the learning environment in their own educational training institutions.
The entire training group consisted of 16 participants and a local Indian GIZ Senior Technical Adviser. They already hold the position of Master trainers (train the trainer) or are intended to start their work at this level. The participants belonged to four different trades:
Additionally, a tutor with profound knowledge and experience in national and international TVET was selected to support the trainers and, in addition, to give further extensive background information to the Indian participants.
The training course objectives focussed on various aspects concerning the participants’ competences to:
CDC, in cooperation with its longstanding experienced partner „Berufsbildungszentrum der Handwerkskammer Süd-Westfalen, Arnsberg“ (BBZ Arnsberg) designed and implemented a programme consisting of presentations, job-shadowing phases, participants‘ own practical exercises and guided visits.
The implementation took place between October 22 and October 28, 2023, and was based on three components: Presentations, Job-shadowing and external visits.
Presentations were used to inform participants about the daily schedule, methodology and expected results. The presentations were accompanied by intensive discussions with the participants in order to develop application strategies in their home country.
Job shadowing is a method originally introduced in the field of HR development. In its process a qualified person (jobholder) is accompanied by an observing person (learning person) with the aim to receive information on the job performed by the job holder without interfering in the respective situations. Questions and answers are part of this process. In addition, the tutor actively intervenes in the job shadowing process and provides support.
For a better understanding of the in-company training of apprentices as the dominating pillar of the Dual Training System, a company visit and a visit to a Vocational School were included into the programme.
