With a population of around two million, Gabon is located in Central Africa. Ranked 115th out of 189 on the Human Development Index, the country is one of the more prosperous countries on the continent due to its oil reserves. Apart from crude oil and petroleum products, manganese and wood are among the most important export commodities. The majority of industry consists of wood and paper processing as well as the textile and food industries.
Carl Duisberg Centren has been running its university program for young scholarship holders on behalf of the Gabonese government since 1976. The goal of the program is to enable scholarship holders to obtain a German university degree in order to gain jobs in leading positions in Gabon's economy and ministries.
The support provided by Carl Duisberg Centren begins on site in Gabon. In addition to providing consultation on the selection process for scholarship holders, the certificates and admission requirements for enrolment at a German university are checked and all entry and residency formalities are clarified.
After entering the country, the young people are put through an intensive German language course which is held at one of our Carl Duisberg Training Centers. The scholarship holders receive support in finding a place to study and, if necessary, in finding internships relevant to their studies. During their studies, they receive professional and extra-curricular support until they graduate and return to Gabon.
